Taming the Tiny Terror: How to Stop Your Bambino Cat’s Bullying Behavior

Miniature Bambino Sphynx Kitten for sale

So, you’ve got a Bambino. Adorable, right? Those little legs, that wrinkled face — they’re like aliens, but cute! We here at Purrxotics simply love them, as well as other hairless babies like the Sphynx and Lykoi. Still, as with many small cats, they can have a Napoleon complex sometimes. And that is where the problem begins, especially if you have several cats. You begin wondering how to stop my bullycat from being a bully?

What is a Bully Cat?

Ever heard the term “bully cat”? It’s not just a nickname anymore.

So what is a bully cat exactly? It defines a cat that always bullies other cats, chases them, maybe even attacks them. They might selfishly hog food, block access to the litter box, or just generally make life miserable for their housemates. Oh yes, even the tiniest Bambino out there can become a full-fledged bully.

Why Do Cats Become Bullies?

Cats don’t start out mean. If they’re being a hairless bullycat, it’s usually because they’re scared, trying to protect their stuff, or just plain bored. Sometimes they’ll scratch or hiss if they feel cornered or scared. If your cat seems grumpy a lot, it’s a good idea to take them to the vet to make sure they’re not sick.

Is Your Cat Being a Bully?

Are they always chasing the other cats around? Are they hissing or swatting a lot? If you see these things, your cat might not just be playing.

How to Manage Your Bambino’s Bullying

There are many things you can do to safely handle a bully cat and create harmony in your multi-cat home. Here’s what we recommend, based on years of experience breeding and caring for these fantastic creatures:

  1. Provide ample resources: Feed your cats in their own feeding dishes, ideally in different areas, and provide separate water bowls, litter boxes (plus one extra), and beds or comfortable hiding places. This minimizes competition and the need to protect resources, a common reason for conflict.
  2. Vertical space is important: Cats love to climb! Cat trees, climbers, shelves, and window ledges help them feel secure and let them observe their surroundings (and avoid each other if they want).  Incorporate a few hiding spots too, like enclosed cat beds or even simple cardboard boxes, which can provide a safe space for each cat.
  3. Playtime is paramount: A tired cat is a well-behaved cat.  Engage your Bambino with wand toys, laser pointers, or puzzle feeders to provide an active session that helps them burn energy. We recommend several play sessions a day — aim for at least two, with one in the evening.
